Reflection

Our time as come to end with our first AIM teaching artist, Mr. Beau Janke.

We performed a fantastic show at the Mabel Tainter, on December 6th, in front of our family and friends.  We were awfully lucky to be able to perform on such a beautiful stage.  The second graders did an incredible job singing and showing off their top 10 songs that they learned, created, and experienced with Mr. Beau and Mrs. Holcomb’s lessons.

We will welcome a new artist, a storyteller, named Ms. Kris Winter, into our classroom in the new year, 2017.

What word(s) comes to the second graders minds when they think about their AIM experience so far?

Case-“makes me feel happy to sing”
Matthew-“he helped us learn new songs”
Shauna-“cool, I got to sing with Mr. Beau”
Hazel-“awesome time, using my voice to sing”
Andrew-“when we do different songs, makes me feel happy, makes us all feel happy”
Isabella-“the Mabel Tainter is awesome!”
Ethan F.-“exciting, when he came… it was fun for us”
Ethan N.-“he was funny when he said he ripped his pants on stage one time”
Kasidy-“it was fun being on stage and I had fun with my classmates”
Brady-“it makes me feel happy when I see Mr. Beau, because he is nice”
Emma-“I like doing projects with him, the banjo creation was my favorite, made from an Oreo, pretzels, and frosting”
Kaitlyn-“I felt stage fright at the Mabel Tainter, it was fun when we got to sing and didn’t have to watch other people”
Lucie-“my lemonade went all over me, from Mr. Beau, when he was giving me a high five goodbye, I felt embarrassed, he is nice and fun with his banjo”
Colton-“awesome, because he sings awesome songs”
Madison-“he likes to play his banjo and he likes to sing”
Lilly-“he is the best singer in the world, he’s amazing, awesome, exciting, and a favorite teacher”
Mason-“He is great, because he sings songs and he is in a band.”
Mrs. Holcomb-“Powerful, helps build a sense of community in our classroom”
Miss Blough-“makes learning engaging and creative”

I think this is how we both felt after our AIM experience.  So thankful for this teaching experience.  We look forward to our next artist...Ms. Kris Winter, storyteller.

Mr. Beau's Last Day at Downsville...

Our word cloud for Mr. Beau from our class.
One of the students is displaying his banjo creation out of an Oreo for the body of the banjo, pretzels for strings, and frosting.
Here is another banjo creation.
Singing our top ten songs with Mr. Beau on our last day.
Here is our assistant helping us record our top 10 songs with Mr. Beau.  He did a fabulous job.  So long.. we will miss  you, but you will never be forgotten by this great bunch of second graders.

Learning Technology with Music

Here is the Friendship Community Song from an earlier post.  I finally figured out how to put the MP3 song on my blog.  Thanks to my wonderful loving sister.  It is the class, myself, and Mr. Beau singing our class anthem.  Enjoy!

Master Writer's Song

Here we are giving our new writing song a try.  We used it to help start out writing thinking this afternoon.

Harmonica Entertainment

Mr. Beau is our idol.  Before Mr. Beau started coming into our classroom their were several students who already had harmonicas that they liked to bring to school.  Then...Mr. Beau showed up with his.  Wow!  What a great addition to our Master Writers song.

Wow! I Feel I Always Have a Song in my Heart Now!

Today was another great day in 2nd grade.  I taught and encouraged the students to be Master writers through the Lucy Calkin's Writing Curriculum:  Improving Narrative Writing.  Mr. Beau and I kicked the lesson off with a song about launching our second grade writing workshop.  Here is a movie of our song.  Enjoy!  Mr. Beau even entertained us with a little harmonica music.

We did it!!!!

The second grade citizens, Mr. Beau, and I wrote our first song together today.  Based off of the 2nd grade Eureka math curriculum, Module 2, Lesson 5.  Wow, we were proud!!  Our hope is to put it on youtube.

How We Began...

Mr. Beau comes to meet the citizens of Downsville Elementary in 2nd grade. A jingle was taught for when Mr. Beau arrives.
Mr. Beau introduced himself. We sang, The More We Are Together.
We started the process of writing a class community building song/anthem. We started with student names, our school name, how many citizens we have in our room, our class community name, etc.

Mr. Beau helps us sing the welcome song and preps the students for writing an anthem and what an anthem is.

We begin the process of writing a song about our classroom community, our names, and a verb that describes each student.
